I didn't know that any single engine aircraft had counter clockwise prop rotation (from the pilots view). That would seem very confusing to the pilot.

What would be confusing to me would be p factor and a right turning tendency instead of left.

Very interesting this. I have no background in aviation but have been around aircooled Volkswagens all my life and have built a number of engines. With all due respect, this looks very sketchy to me. And with respect, I really mean it. I understand a lot of people have put a lot of effort into these engines. I also undrrstand you builders trust these things with your life. But there are a number of things that stands out to me as a VW engine guy as weird and if someone can explain - please do so. 1. The 90 degree fittings where the oil cooler normally goes. To me, those look like a recipe for oil leaks and loss of oil pressure, especially in a high vibration application. No serious VW engine builder would exit and return oil that way. So why is it done like that in a situation where someones life depends on it? 2. The 94 mm cylinder is used in the VW world only in situations where the trade off in engine life expectancy and reliability is acceptable. Like drag racing or weekend warrior cars. What do you ga guys do to make them keep their roundness over time? 3. Those welds??? Again, no disrespect here. I am not here to bash or troll. I am genuinly intrigued by this contraption and looking for answers to the questions it raises.

My Glastar weighs about 1200 pounds empty with a tailwheel so most of the weight is on the mains. I may take take two bathroom scales side by side using a little bridge of lumber between them to allow a higher measurement as I expect each main to be about 550 pounds. Then just add them up to get the total for the wheel, there is no need to center the wheel exactly between them. And subtract the wood of course 😀. The opposite main would be raised to level, and the tailwheel should be positioned for level flight during all these measurements of course.😊 Of course by weighing one wheel at a time it’s easier to deal with the “bathroom scale timeout” problem. You just need a way to quickly and safely lower the wheel onto the bridge after turning on the scale. Hmmmm…

Terry, if one had a nice primer instead of using the choke, could i just delete the choke plate and shaft and plug the holes? The primer should serve the same purpose, right?

Why no front bulkhead? I've seen cracked spinners and backplates on Ultracruisers - a front bulkhead would at least slow this down.

From personal 45 year A&P experience, get rid of the plastic/nylon oil press line. Had a builder nearly lose his life when one got soft due to heat and melt against the cylinder.

I am considering picking up a rebuilt mosler 40hp half vw engine. It has mounting flanges cast into the case to be mounted from the back instead of on the sides of the case. Can I mount an engine off the firewall like that? Or should I stick with the side mounting like the engine bay was designed?

Terry, thank you for the videos that you have produced. Though I am extremely familiar with air-cooled Volkswagen engines, your video of the 2 cylinder conversion is appreciated. I am looking forward to your series of videos based upon this engine configuration. I am certain that there is invaluable takeaway information unavailable elsewhere. Your H5 build videos answers many questions of an Ultracruiser build, there is much crossover information. Again, thank you for your time and the information. Respectfully, Chris A UC Plansholder

Again thanks as I enjoyed watching this assembly series even though this planes not a 103 plane it was still cool to watch. 🙂👍

You REALLY need to get a throat mic or one that mounts on your shirt. It's VERY difficult to hear what you are saying, even with the volume at max. It just sounds like mumbling to me. Occasionally you speak up, and then I can understand what you are saying, but when the camera pulls back, your voice goes away. I like these videos a LOT, but it is hard to understand what you are saying.
